Why did the League of Women Voters (the sponsors, the East Cambridge Planning Team, left the decision up to them because they are nonpartisan and provided the moderator) cave in to Marjorie Decker? The same decision was made with respect to the first candidates forum, which was sponsored by the Ward 6 Democrats. As far as I'm concerned, only people who are actually appearing on the ballot have any right to appear at a candidates forum. Permitting her to take part was blatant favoritism. Does anyone believe that a non-incumbent would have been treated the same way?
I hope the voters factor in Councillor Decker's obvious sense of entitlement, despite her failure to follow the rules, when they decide how to vote on November 3. Not that she's alone in Cambridge city government in thinking that some people are more equal than others, but that will never change as long as there are no penalties for acting that way.
