New Broadway Lake Forms

Shortly after the rain storm ended on Thursday June 5, 2014, a new lake was formed on Broadway near the southeast corner with Quincy Street. This is new pavement and there is no place for the water which accumulates to run off. Will boating be allowed?

Enthusiasm At Harvard University's Arts First Festival

The enthusiasm at Harvard University's Arts First Festival led some driver to mow down some city street signs and a parking meter. The driver may have been unable to pay the require fees so like Cool Hand Luke he knocked off the meter at Quincy Street and Harvard Street. On Saturday April 27, 2013 the day before these images were captured and posted, film star Matt Damon walked along Quincy Street after receiving a university award. I saw some paparazzi chasing the Damon. Was it one of them? The next day City employees removed the broken signs and meter, and replaced the pole for a new sign.

Quincy St Closed Three Days, New Underworld Entrance

Due to increased demand and extraordinary pedestrian traffic wanting a shortcut to the underworld, Skanska Construction under direction of Harvard Real Estate Services opened a new entrance on Quincy Street, Cambridge MA. This requires closing Quincy Street between Broadway and Harvard Street for three days during working hours. Quincy Street will be opened at about 5 PM each evening. Bus routes number 68, 69 are re-routed on Ellery Street arriving at Harvard Square via Harvard Street. The MBTA number one and Harvard's LMA number 2 buses to Boston go along Broadway instead of picking up on Quincy Street. They travel to Ellery Street and back track along Harvard Street to Quincy to pick up passengers going to Boston. This is reported to be in effect Monday March 12 to Wednesday March 14, 2012. Quincy Street Traffic Jam

Harvard University reunion day May 29, 2010. Buses lined up on Quincy Street when Fogg Museum construction has shut part of the street makes for slow traffic. At one point, which is what attracted my attention, there were buses all the way to Broadway, forcing MBTA bus routes # 1 and # 69 trying to turn into Quincy Street to back up in order to make the turn. In addition it was a public safety issue if there were Fire Apparatus trying to turn onto Quincy Street. The buses would delay response to an emergency.
During weekdays too the construction along Quincy Street makes the road narrow. Visitor buses to Harvard park along Quincy Street creating the same narrow passage.
On Tuesday June 1, 2010 construction crews added to the area congestion at Broadway at Prescott Street shutting westbound traffic on Broadway during the day and forcing traffic onto Prescott Street. What route MBTA buses # 69 and # 68 took to get to Quincy Street is unknown.
