NY US Rep. Ahead in Election Polls After 20-Count Indictment

[From article]
Once left for dead by many on Capitol Hill amid looming federal charges, embattled Rep. Michael Grimm, New York Republican, is running neck-and-neck with his Democratic challenger in a bid for a third term amid a fusillade of attacks by national Democrats looking to flip the seat.
Political handicappers have moved the race in New York’s 11th District, centered on Staten Island, in Mr. Grimm’s direction in recent weeks and new polls show the Republican with more than a fair chance at retaining his seat despite a 20-count indictment in April on tax and wire fraud charges related to his role in running a Manhattan restaurant before he was elected to Congress.

Wisconsin Sheriff Re-Elected Contrary To Bloomberg's Efforts

[From article]
Fresh off his victory in Wednesday's primary, pro-gun rights incumbent sheriff of Milwaukee County, David Clarke, Jr. appeared on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" to fire back at former New York City mayor and gun control advocate Michael Bloomberg.
Bloomberg's Independence USA super PAC spent $150,000 to air a series of television ads targeting Clarke's conservative pro-gun policies. But according to Clarke, Bloomberg's efforts to influence the election backfired.
"He came in and thought he could spread a few hundred thousand dollars around to take a prized catch away that he could march around the country with in his failed crusade -- his anti-gun crusade -- and he could hold me up as an example of what might happen to others if they don't get on board with him," Clarke said. "But that didn't work here. The public was actually turned off by it."

Addiction By Design: Machine Gambling, Coming To Boston Soon, Book Review

Addiction By Design: Machine Gambling in Las Vegas
Natasha Dow Schull
Princetion University Press 2012

Natasha Dow Schüll is a cultural anthropologist and associate professor at MIT's Program in Science, Technology, and Society. Her new book, ADDICTION BY DESIGN: Machine Gambling in Las Vegas (Princeton University Press 2012), draws on extended research among compulsive gamblers and the designers of the slot machines they play to explore the relationship between technology design and the experience of addiction. Her current, ongoing research concerns the rise of digital self-tracking technologies and the new modes of introspection and self-governance they engender. Her documentary film, BUFFET: All You Can Eat Las Vegas, has screened multiple times on PBS and appeared in numerous film festivals.
This is a very well researched book on video gambling. Schull spent ten years attending corporate gaming conferences, and interviewing addicted gamblers. She found the compelling factor is not winning, but "getting into the zone." She tells of gamblers who ignore others who get ill and they just keep gambling. The machines are able to gather information about every time the player touches the machine. When they get near their losing limit the house sends out "ambassadors of luck," who have hand held computers, with vouchers for free dinners to keep the players at the machines.

The casinos can estimate how much a person will lose in a lifetime. Some stories show that the players are highly intelligent and intentionally play to lose as a way of helping bring on death. Their inability to cope with human interaction is a reason why the video machines are attractive. The machines eliminate uncertainty. The players know they will win or they will lose. No uncertainty. The only decisions they have to make are which cards to keep and which ones to throw. The objective is to keep playing as long as possible. Winning is an interruption. Some innovations came to the US from Australia. What struck me as problematic is that the way that the gambling industry gathers information about their players, is a pattern used by the military, and by corporations to try to control a person's actions and spending behavior.

That is the addiction which casinos bring to an area. Boston, Massachusetts voters will decide where they want their casino to be. It is an issue in the Boston Mayor's race to be decided on November 5, 2013.

Las Vegas casinos increasingly pay attention to their customers - their likes, dislikes, moods and patterns - in order to create an engaging experience. As Natasha Schull explains, the stated goal of these new designs is "customer extinction" - the moment at which the customer is out of money. This talk, essential viewing for anyone interested in the design or user experience of electronic gambling machines.

Dead People Receive Ballots in NH Primary

projectveritas.com On January 10th, Project Veritas reporters walked into New Hampshire Polling Locations during the Presidential Primaries, saying dead people's names. We stated the name of a dead person we got from the NH obituaries. The names of the deceased were both Registered Republican and Democrats And in almost every case, saying a dead person's name, we were handed a ballot to cast a vote. We used no misrepresentation and no false pretenses. in fact, in almost every case, we insisted we show ID and they insisted that we vote without showing ID. Thanks to DailyCaller.com for breaking story.

Tsunami Watch, Cambridge, MA NOV 2 2010

These images were captured at about 9:30 AM, November 2, 2010, on Cambridge Street and Quincy Street in Cambridge MA. The building is the Harvard Graduate School of Design, which houses the voting machines for Ward 7 Precinct 3 of Cambridge MA. As you can see there is no Tsunami present. The precinct workers reported that the Tsunami is not expected at this location. No water or Republicans were seen in the area. Poll workers said they did see a few mauve elephants wandering upward toward West Cambridge. They could not be certain that the elephants, who are known to have an early awareness of the approach of Tsunamis, were actually running from an approaching storm. In any case no one seemed worried in Cambridge and if it comes they will be unprepared. This report compiled by the Volunteer Tsunami Watchers of Mid Cambridge.

Senate Candidate's Signs Posted Illegally

These four images were captured at about 8:30 PM on Wednesday February 17, 2010 on Mass Avenue between Prospect Street and Temple Street, Cambridge MA. Mr. Dennis Benzan is an attorney in Massachusetts. He is a candidate for State Senate Democratic nomination to replace Anthony Galluccio who resigned after being jailed for violation of probation. Cambridge is a city with pervasive relaxed rectitude. Mr. Benzan is a suitable candidate for this public office. He indicates his disdain for laws by posting his signs on public polls along a public avenue contrary to law. As an officer of the court perhaps he believes he is above the laws. Ordinary citizens are arrested and fined for violations of laws. How many lawyers or politicians are punished in Mass when they violate state or local laws? Perhaps this is one more pattern of behavior in Cambridge for the $130,000 taxpayer funded Review Committee to study. Ahem!

Harvard Law School's Special Status

Harvard Law School dormitory North Hall 1651 Mass Avenue in Cambridge, MA at Wendell Street displays campaign signs for Henrietta Davis a candidate for Cambridge City Council. As a tax exempt non profit corporation under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Harvard pays no property taxes. Harvard also has a tax exemption from the MA Department of Revenue and like US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner an exemption from the US Internal Revenue Service. Under relaxed rectitude of the Obama administration Harvard ignores state and US prohibitions of using tax exempt property for political purposes. Harvard enjoys special status as the degree granting institution for the President of the United States. These images were captured on Wednesday October 21, 2009 at about 6:00 PM. Sometime before 9:30 PM on Thursday October 22, 2009 the signs were removed.
